Valerie Lechner grew up in Mansfield and is a graduate of Mansfield High School. After graduation she joined the U.S. Navy, she completed boot camp in Orlando FL, Hull Technician school in Philadelphia PA and went on to complete Nuclear Components Welder school in San Diego CA. While in San Diego, she had tours of duty on three different ships; USS CAPE COD (AD 43), USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and USS MCKEE (AS 41), she completed one Western Pacific and two South Pacific deployments with these ships. She was then assigned to Transient Personnel Unit in Great Lakes IL, where she started the process of changing rates, she got accepted to Navy Career Counselor School and after four years in Great Lakes she was assigned to the pre-commissioning crew for the USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) as the Command Career Counselor. She commissioned USS PINCKNEY and completed one Western Pacific deployment supporting the war on terrorism. Valerie’s final three years in the Navy were assigned as Command Career Counselor at Naval Station San Diego where she was able to complete an Associates of Science degree from Central Texas College. Upon retiring from the Navy after 20 years, she decided to move back to Tioga County to be close to family. She and her son currently reside in Mainesburg, she also has a daughter who lives in Cherry Point, NC with her husband and their daughter.
